  • The Sleep Study

    Dear Kristen,

After a visit to Dr Lynne Lim to ascertain the cause of your blocked nose, it turns out that you have abnormally large adenoids. I am quite lazy right now to explain what an andenoid is so just read up on the following link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Adenoid

Your breathing has become very heavy during your sleep, implying that you may not be getting enough oxygen whilst sleeping, which could lead to an undermining of the development of your brain. A sleep study was arranged on 8th May 2008, during daddy's exams!! The purpose of the sleep study was to establish whether surgery to remove the adenoid was indeed necessary or not, as the risk involved with going under general anesthetic can be complicated for you.

    - Daddy...

That was Daddy's writing last night. He went to sleep after two paragraphs. Faint.

So today we went to see Dr Lynne again for a check-up and the results of the sleep study. She says it was borderline and your oxygen level dropped only once in awhile. I hope that it is a good thing... because your breathing is quite noisy at night... even more so when you are having a cold.

We must seem like paranoid parents in front of your PD as well, who usually gives us a "yeah of course... why are you worrying" look. But we are worried. We're not like a PD who sees sick children so often that he has become desensitised to sick children. It is frustrating on our end to have a PD who makes us feel like we're being paranoid when we bring you in to see him because you are breathing heavily at night and you're having a cold. Sigh.

I guess we're just going to have to live with your sensitive nose and take extra care that you don't catch colds as this would only make your breathing harder and cause you sleepless nights. Or at least treat your cold... immediately.

    Love,
